The Club followed up its Rugby successes in the season 1896-97. Only three matches were played but the Club won all three. They scored in all 57 points, and their line was crossed on only one occasion.

In this season, the Club's membership passed the hundred mark. The Challenge Club Competition now became the Challenge Field competition and the first team to win it was from H.M.S. Centurion.

During the 1897-98 season Soccer maintained its place as the most popular code with Club members. Only one Rugby match was played and the Club was defeated 18 to nil.
